Shop Local; 2020 gift guide
Its been awhile since I posted here…my kids started virtual learning in mid August and I went back to work (virtually as well), so there has been a bit of an adjustment period. My intention was never to put the blog on the back burner, but I intend to rectify that going forward. With the holidays only a few weeks away, I’m gearing up to share delicious menu ideas. Before I do that, I wanted to share some local makers for your holiday gift giving needs. Supporting local; isn’t some trendy catchphrase to me, it’s a true way of life. I seek out those I know who are makers and artists with small businesses and support them. I know how important it is to be able to create and share things you love with others. Making sales allows them to continue living their dream and keeps money circulating in the local economy. These women owned businesses offer original “one of a kind” products. When I find a good thing, I can’t help but share with others. Check out the neat items they are producing and if you feel so inclined, place an order for a loved one.
My friend Lisa, operates “be mindful” a holistic nature infused skincare line. On her site you will find soaps, oil blends, skincare and more. The products are 100% pure; no industrial chemicals used here. The packaging is eco-friendly and was chosen intentionally to reuse and recycle everyday goods. Lisa is often thinking of others and each month donates a portion of her sales proceeds to survivors of human trafficking. Every order is packaged thoughtfully and beautifully; fill up a stocking this season. If you need a holiday gift basket or exceptional gift wrapping, put Lisa’s creativity to the test-she makes everything look festive and special.
Maybe you are looking for a cute present for your sister or best friend? Spencer makes unique handcrafted jewelry, using polymer clay and resin. Her ETSY store “Little Shop of Mordor” is filled with amazing finds. I have bought a few pairs since she launched a few months ago and I couldn’t be happier with the results. Each pair of earrings comes in a little organza drawstring bag, perfect for giving. Her holiday collection is starting to trickle out and I have my eyes on the adorable gingerbread man earrings.
Holly is a wonderful artist; the three disciplines she focuses on are illustration, photography and fibers. Whenever I view her work I feel inspired because she is incredibly talented, thoughtful and kind in nature. Although we have not yet met, I instantly made a connection with Holly. She hails from my hometown and has been friends with my other half since childhood. When she launches a new project, I get excited because she shares wonderful messages of hope and positivity. We could all use a lot more of that these days! I recently ordered a couple of her scarves/collars from her Sugarplum line. The vivid colors and designs are delightful. My daughter and I can’t wait to wear them this winter. The greeting card pictured is also, illustrated by her. Such a talent!
Supporting others is super meaningful and I would love to hear of any small businesses or makers that you love.
Be good and well. xo
